Summer plans

by Susan on June 18, 2013

I’m really trying to come up with some good long-weekend trips since we’re not taking a vacation this year.   I love taking mini trips. It gets us a chance to get away from the daily grind without spending a ton of money and using all of B’s time off at once.

So far this summer I’m pretty sure I want to do the following:

  •  Seven Springs.  My aunt has a condo there, there’s not a ton to do in the summer, other than sliding down the mountain, which when I was younger, I loved down. Now? Um, I’m actually more afraid my hips and butt will get in the way than the actual alpine slide experience itself.
  • Presque Isle.  This is one I want to on a long weekend for sure.  I want to take the bikes with us, hit the bike trail (13.5 mile loop through the park).  B and I used to go there when we were dating, and I love it there.  However, I’ve not done 13.5 miles in .. a while. I know for a lot of people who bike seriously, that’s nothing. However I am a slow biker. I look at everything, I pause a lot to look around, so I don’t rock out fast speeds, that’s going to take us probably 2 hrs.  Can my butt handle that? Although, knowing that when we’re done, I can take a dip in the water and relax on the beach is pretty fab.  While we’re there, I’d like to stop by the casino (a girl can dream…) and the water park (possibly).  I’d like my parents to join us, I think they’d really like it.
  • Columbus. We always go to  Columbus, so that’s nothing too special, but it’s always nice to get away.  They have a ton of parks we can check out and while we’re there we can stop and visit my friend and B can do some work.
  • Cleveland.  I think we’ll probably go up there to a museum.  And again, Cleveland isn’t really a “vacation”, it’s 30 minutes away, but we never go there, since it’s close, we’ll make a day trip out of it!

Other than that, summer plans are pretty basic.

  • Work – I brought a good portion of things home to scan and reorganize my lessons and units.  I have 6 prep’s (different subjects entirely – computer 1, computer 2, computer forensics, computer repair, general business & accounting) that I teach each year, summer is the only chance I really have to organize it all.
  • Yoga & Reading – I have done a few yoga practices here at home. Haven’t made it to the studio yet (sorry, but at $17 a class, that’s a hefty fee, no matter how much I like it). I have gone through a few books already actually, a few that were summer reading that kids threw out of their lockers the last few days of school, and one book on clearance at Target. Are they anything amazing? Eh. But they were a good break for the brain. I’m looking at Gymagogo and Yogaglo for yoga options.  Gymagogo is currently free and Yogaglo is $18 a month after the free trial. Can’t go wrong there. Will report back on both when I have more to say.
  • Adoption -  I wish I had an update. But we don’t. We continue to sit and wait for the right situation to come our way.
  • Healthy eating and exercise – I’ve been watching my food carefully and balancing my points. I’ve also been working with Diet-to-Go as I mentioned, and am enjoying not having to think about my meals, which is always nice.  Which, by the way, Diet-to-Go is having a twitter chat tonight, 9pm. Join me. Participants can win a Fitbit Flex or a week of free meals (hello, have you noticed my trend of FREE). I’ve been cranking out the miles – which for runners, my mileage seems sad, but for me, I’ve been doing great with my intentional exercise.  I think one thing that I have to remember is that a lot of people have desk jobs, so their run or walk in the evening is all they get.  Now that it’s summer, I don’t have to worry about that. So I can get my 10K steps through daily activities and my exercise, which makes “having” to get my mile in at the end of the day much easier. Going out for 20 minutes doesn’t seem overwhelming with everything else I have to do, because I have nothing else required of my time.
  • Best Body Bootcamp – I suppose this could go with the topic above, but whatevs. I’m doing the best body bootcamp again from Tina.  I have done this in the past, and I had a training package from her. She’s awesome. She kills me. The workouts leave me ready to die.  So while I’m saving some money in other ways, I just paid my fee and am doing this 8 week program again. I feel like I love torture. Plank, squats and walking challenges on top of all this? I should look AM-AZZZZING when I go back to work. Right?  You can probably still sign up, it started yesterday.

Do you tend to take more mini vacations or one-two big full out vacations? Where is your favorite place to go?

February was a pretty fabulous month for me. I made a lot of positive changes in my life. The first: I bought Jillian Michael’s Body Revolution, and I started it this past month.  I’m in the third week (kind of did one week, took a week off, then started back). I really like it so [...]

Just an update folks, nothing more totally still SFW material I haven’t disappeared, but I did take a little break.  I was feeling pretty all over the place, and mentally couldn’t check in. So let’s see, where are we. We’ve finished our homestudy, just need to wait until it’s officially approved. I went and spent [...]

The Trials and Triumphs of Learning to Eat Better

Today, Trina, @atxtrina, is guest posting. Trina has been super inspirational to me. She’s worked her butt off, made positive choices and her healthy lifestyle shows it all! I hope you enjoy some of her story like I have!   I once had a hard time eating better. My wise food decisions didn’t happen overnight. I [...]

This weekend went pretty quickly, they seem to always go pretty quickly. Friday night we had our 2nd of 3 homestudy interviews. This one was intense.  She had us meet with her separately and asked way more than I was prepared for. It’s not that it was overly intrusive (though some might feel that way) it was just [...]

The other day, I watched BL14 and was so pumped up to hit my workout hard. I went downstairs, got my water, weights, turned the TV on and boom. I was about 3 minutes in already exhausted. WHAT? 3 minutes? Who the hell took over my body. So I chugged on. About 7 minutes in [...]

Workout Wednesday

We’re all (ok, I hope it’s more than just me!) guilty of spending more time pinning workouts on Pinterest than actually doing them.  SO I’ve decided I’ve had enough of that. I’m going to take my workouts that I pin so religiously, post them here, and then actually, you know, DO them, and report back [...]
