Yesterday I ran the Akron Color Vibe. Basically it’s simliar to the other fun runs and color runs, but it was my first time ever doing it.
We got there super early (race was starting at 9, we got there at 7) because last we her there were 7000+ people registered. The parking can’t accomodate that, so being the neurotic person that I am, we went early so we could get a spot. While we were waiting my MOM decided she wanted to walk it. WHAT?! My mom?! Sure. So we went and got her registered. PS – this was totally her first 5k ever.
I ran into some coworkers, and friends who were running and we edged our way to the front so we could take off in the first wave. With that, I will leave you with some pictures, and then a pro/con list at the bottom for this race
Thanks to dear hubby for taking pictures! If you ran, or want to see other pictures, check out his flickr and look for yourself!
Pros:
- FUN! I loved it.
- They give you the glasses and t-shirt. So little work on my part.
- There’s a band, the weather was AWESOME and the crowd was great!
- It was exciting enough to get mom to walk it
- They supported walkers – that’s important to me in a 5k!
- You can run again and again if you want – and go through the color stations again.
- The proceeds went to the Akron Canton Foodbank.
Downside:
- PARKING! People were backed up on Route 8 and all the local side roads for over an hour or more. Some people parked 2 miles away, down in Chapel Hill (thus crossing that awful 5 corner intersection) and the Metro Park across the way. It was awful.
- No Mile markers?! What a pain to guess. I didn’t take my phone because I forgot to put it in a bag and didn’t have pockets, so what a bummer!
- It said the last wave was at 10 – they still had people parking and trying to get in by 11, poor planning.
- Leaving was a mess as well – little crowd and traffic control. Lots of people just left their cars and walked home.
Would I do it again? Totally
Have you done a color style run?
