Spring Break isn’t exactly the same as it was when I was in high school, or even college. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still enjoy it! It’s pretty much wrapping up, but I’ve had a fabulous time so far.
What have I been up to you ask? Great question.
The first think I did to start off Spring break was sleep in. I know, such a rebel
I just enjoyed that opportunity. That however, did NOT set the tone for the rest of break.
First things first. Shopping.
On Saturday, we bought a new car!
We traded in my husband’s Chevy Colorado. Which was kind of sad. She was a fun truck. If you remember, and I’m sure somewhere along the way I posted a picture, in the winter, because our driveway is wicked, she would slide down into the road, like this:
We had briefly been talking about trading it in, and getting a car. I want to stick with an SUV, but financially the truck wasn’t making a lot of sense right now. We had a large payment because we rolled some other car debt into it (but an AWESOME 1.9% interest rate really helped!). And more than that, with gas being nearing $4/gallon, it just seemed silly. I wish we had thought of this before we replaced both front and back breaks, and got new tires for winter (which by the way weren’t really needed considering Ohio held back the Winter this year!). But we went to VanDevere Chevy And were fortunate enough to get almost $2K more than what KBB and Edmunds were suggesting for trade in. So with that, we decided to take the plunge. Thanks to his dad’s GM employee discount we had our trade in, which we had a nice equity on, and $6500 off in incentives. Kind of hard to pass up when you cut the price of the car in half. And when we refigure out gas budget and our new car payment, the savings each month will be tremendous.
And… Because shopping seemed to be the theme of the weekend (and we had a new car that got awesome gas milage!) we took a trip to Aurora Farms just to walk around and see if we wanted anything. I forgot that all of the local schools are also on break (don’t ask me how I forgot) and it was packed. But that just made for some fun people watching and the ducks were out. The fresh air was nice, and it wasn’t uncomfortably cold, so I got a few necessities and we headed back home.
Now, it’s a holiday weekend, so of course I saw some family. Sunday was Easter. It’s not a huge holiday with my family, but it is a nice time to get together. I don’t know why it’s so hard, when they’re only an hour away, but it seems like it is lately.
I can’t forget to mentioned lots of sweating this week. I’ve really enjoyed having the time off to work out early (and by early I mean 10am, not something awful like 5am). I’ve been getting in all my workouts, and having fun doing it!
On Monday, husband took the day off with me to go and spend some time together. So we started our day with some lunch from the Chowder House Cafe in Cuyahoga Falls. Let me point out this is not a place I’d ever just walk into and sit down. I felt intimidated by the small look, that I figured I’d stand out as a non-regular. I bought a LivingSocial deal for them a while back, and it was going to expire. Figured what the heck. My friend Rachel, over at Itsahero.com loves this place. So we went.
Their focus is obviously seafood, which I don’t really eat. However, they did have a few options for picky folks like myself, and I got a delicious french onion soup and wedge salad. B had the red fish sandwich special, and enjoyed it. The server was great, I didn’t feel weird and out of place. If I ever decide to try more seafood, I think this would totally be the place to do it. In the meantime, we’ll go there for B.
We left happy campers. I was also pretty excited as Rachel and I had planned a lunch date later in the week for some delicious grilled cheese from the Lockview. As always, it was delicious and the company was fabulous
I love Spring break lunch dates.
We then headed over to the Akron Zoo. I love zoos. No seriously, I even tweeted such. I really liked the Akron Zoo. They were very reasonable in pricing (although we had bought a Groupon, so really most of our Monday adventures were FREE) and I liked the layout. My complaint about Columbus’ zoo is that you have to follow the countries in order to see animals. Now I get organizing them in groups, but it felt forced at Columbus. It didn’t at Akron. I also managed (don’t ask how again) to AGAIN forget all of the local kids were on break as well (duh.. I know) and at first I thought that would ruin the trip, but it didn’t. The kids and absent-minded parents never got in the way. I never had to dodge a kid or take a stroller to the hip because mom wasn’t watching. It was really great.
While we were there we saw some beautiful animals!
I have a lot more planned for the last few days. Thursday night a coworker is having a party, I am going there. I rarely go to things like that, so I figure why not. And he lives nearby. I am going to a flow class with a coworker, in the dreaded hot room on Friday. I will be hydrating heavy starting tomorrow morning in prep
and then Friday night we’ll be going out for our friend’s bday party. Some new (to us) place in Wadsworth. It’s always a good time with her and her friends are a lot of fun, so it should be a good night
And on Saturday Rachel and I are going to another yoga event in the afternoon. Should be fun! I’m excited to try a new place.
That’s a lot of busyness. I’m not one for go go go. If you know me, you know that I like spans of days with no plans. But I feel like everything I’m doing is adding value to my days, so therefore worth the time
I also picked up some crafting supplies for another project for my room I’ve been working out (final picture coming soon!). I think keeping things busy keeps distracting me from the obvious cycling. And while maybe it’s not ideal, I’ll take it! I like being distracted. I have a busy, busy month coming up at work, the next four weeks are intense with our awards banquet that I have to do, so I won’t have much time to dwell.
I am so ready to wrap up this school year and add another one to the books. I’ll soon be counting down until summer, so look for it
If you had a spring break how would you enjoy it? If you do have one, what did you do?
