When you’re unable to move, you find lots of spare time as the day goes on. I worked on a couple of crafts, most of them coming from Pinterest.
The first one I made was a Floppy Disk Pencil Holder. This was originally found here. I figured this would be fun to use in the classroom (computer lab).
I had a lot of fun making this, but it was a few more steps than I actually thought it would be. I had to recruit Brent to help move things a bit faster! I apologize for the quality of photos during this process, keep in mind I’m laying in bed, so my mobility is a little less than ideal.
Items need:
- Floppy disks
- Zipties
- Scissors (or cutters)
- Drill
I started with getting some disks on my local Freecycle. I didn’t want to spend money on them if I could find some that someone had laying around.

In order to make the bottom attach seamlessly, we needed to drill holes in that disk. In order to line these up perfectly, Brent just took two disks, reversed them, and made the wholes on the top match the wholes on the bottom. He also used the drill the make the notches on the back of the side disks full holes.
From there, decide whether you want the disks facing in or out, and just start to attach them with the zipties. Trim them as you go if you want it a little easier.
As you can see, I waited on my first one until it was attached and then felt like I was trying to fit 5 hands into the tiny spot. It was really uncomfortable.
And the finished product:

I'm a 30-something yoga-lovin', tea-drinkin' high school teacher struggling to find my place in this crazy world. My blog focuses on my journey to lose weight, get healthy, and our attempts to become a family of three. I spend a lot of time exploring and embracing Akron, often photo-documenting my trips. Everything else is just the glitter in my life that adds to who I am.

so cute!!!
Super cute craft! I may have disc drives in a few weeks if you want them. We moved offices and found a bunch. I am just waiting for the ok to toss them.
If they are dark green or yellow, I would LOVE them. I have a ton of other colors, but those are hard to find, and those are our school colors. lol.
