Huge thank you to the wonderful ladies who did some guest posts for me while I was gone! If you didn’t see them, click here to read them.

Now that I’m back, I thought I’d do a little recap of vacation with pictures, because pictures are always fun :)

We went to the Portland Light House and area.

We went to LLBean (can you go to Maine and not visit?) and grabbed some coffee (and I bought a bookbag for work!).

We tried to fish in the marsh (and never caught anything, but there are lots of crab swimming around)

We enjoyed lots of great meals

We ate at Ri Ra before heading out on our sunset cruise.

Good drinks (so I’m told, didn’t drink)

This was from the Portland Pie company, one of my favorites! We liked them so much, we went twice!

Great group of guys – they make an awesome grilled cheese ;) Check them out

The Lobster Shack was a hit, and a recommendation from Rachel (She also suggested Portland Pie Company). I didn’t have anything that afternoon, but the view was great!

We tried to canoe

We saw some beautiful sunsets and views

Spent one afternoon at the beach

We were attached but this umbrella, not once, but twice on the beach

We took a sunset cruise

We spent a lot of time in the car. The drive alone is 11 hours from my parents house, so add an hour onto that to return back home.

All in all – I enjoyed being on vacation, but I don’t really think I’ll be heading back to the same place any time soon. Don’t get me wrong, Maine is beautiful, and being with family was nice, but it’s not going to be my vacation go-to spot.  A few reasons.

  • The first is that it’s expensive. Meals (and I don’t eat seafood, so I’m talking regular food) is at least $3-$4 more there.  Which while on the whole isn’t bad, it is when you’re going out to eat 2x a day for 7 days.
  • The second was the weather and the green headed flies.  These things are VAMPIRES.  They don’t just sit on you and gross you out while you’re eating. They land on you and take hunks of skin away with them.  We were told they are worse in the summer when it’s hot (which it was incredibly hot while we were there) and nothing keeps them away. So it ruined our time canoeing, cooking and sitting outside, playing in the marsh..
  • The beach was just ‘meh’

I’ve always wanted to go to Maine but never quite make it there. When I saw your pic of the Lobster Shack I was like huh, that looks like the place that Rachel went to lol

I’m more of an OBX, leave me be with sand in my toes and a book on the beach type of girl. But Maine has a lot to offer, and I’m glad I went.
